Spring is arguably the best season to visit the Maltese Islands, with balmy weather, late sunsets and pristine beaches that haven’t yet succumbed to all the summer visitors.

This is the ideal time of year to plan your outdoor activities around Malta, enjoying miles upon miles of blue skies and endless horizons. Here are our absolute team favourites to enjoy.

1. Boat-hopping across Grand Harbour
2. Take the Hop On/Hop Off bus
3. Get away to Gozo
4. Explore Blue Grotto
5. Join a dive

1. Boat-hopping across Grand Harbour

Definitely the most chill option in terms of exploring Valletta and the Three Cities. A very short ferry trip not only connects these three landmarks, but also provides the most scenic mode of transport, with no traffic or stress. Spend the morning meandering around the baroque capital, taking in the museums and maybe stopping for a quick coffee and a traditional pastizz (savoury cheesecake). In the afternoon, just walk down to Ta’ Liesse Harbour and in ten minutes you’ll find yourself in the Vittoriosa marina, surrounded by luxury yachts and gorgeous architecture. From here, it is easy to discover the Three Cities on foot.

2. Take the Hop On/Hop Off bus

Don’t feel like messing around with different bus routes or taxi rides? Not a problem, as there’s an easy way to get in all the major attractions in Malta on one route. The Hop On/Hop Off bus will drop you off and pick you up from some of the best spots on the island – one ticket will do the whole job. This is the most time and cost-effective way of visiting different towns and villages in one day, trust us!

3. Get away to Gozo

Tourists love the sister island, which can make it a bit too crowded in the busiest summer months. Get a headstart on everyone else so you can meander all the best spots without constantly bumping into other people, or getting your best shots photo-bombed. Restaurants also tend to have better offers on during the mid-season, so you can dine like royalty right on the sea-front.

4. Explore Blue Grotto

The network of caves along the southern coast of Malta is surrounded by deep blue seas, and a trip on a traditional Maltese boat is a definite must-do. Spring is the best season for it, as the weather is still refreshing enough to enjoy being in the direct sunlight. And, of course, the caves themselves are a lot less crowded, so you’re likely to spend more time experiencing the scenery in peace.

5. Join a dive

Allow us to let you in on a little secret. The period between May and June is when the sea in Malta is at its most spectacular. With fewer visitors and swimmers, underwater visibility is astounding, and this clarity extends to the flora and fauna. Colours are brighter, dive sites more easily accessible and group dives not as crowded. This is the time to join in, whether you’re a newbie or an expert.

We're looking forward to welcoming you.
